Reason 1999 why my husband rocks

On Saturday afternoon, Ben got pulled over for speeding. He was coming down from Butterfield Canyon, and was doing 37 in a 30 mph zone. Luckily, he talked himself out of a ticket, and got away with just a warning.

Oh – and he was riding his bike!

**Edited to add: This is not a joke. He seriously got pulled over for speeding on his bicycle. Apparently the whole "Share the Road" bike campaign goes both ways. He was riding down a steep and windy road down a canyon, and the cop said he was worried about his safety. blah. blah. blah. More like a slow afternoon in my (humble) opinion. And apparently he's not the only one who has had this happen. But hey - at least its a good story. Right?

What? Is that a joke? Can they seriously pull you over while you're riding a bike?!

This story is sweet! I freakin’ love it.

Question, how do you add links in the text of a post? e.g. butterfield canyon

hey, at least it wasn't a photo cop and you got the ticket 2 weeks later with a 150 dollar fine....

he is a bad a--37 mph is impressive for those of us non-bikers

That's great. At first I though he was riding a bike as in motorcycle. So funny!

OK...That is THE dumbest thing I've ever heard of. At least Ben was smooth enough to talk himself out of the ticket. hee hee That is just really ridiculous though. :o)

That is great. I love when random things happen like that!

That is awesome. What a great thing to boast about! It would almost be worth getting the ticket just so you could frame it. It must feel scary to go 37mph on your bike!

Thats too funny! I cant believe he got pulled over, and then had to talk his way out of a ticket. I agree sounds like the cops had nothing better to do. How would they even know how fast he was going on a bike anyway???

Sorry... transportation engineer has to pipe in here.

Why would a bike be exempt from the law? Radar works by bouncing radar waves of of an object so they can check bikes as easily as they check cars.

Speed limits aren't some number that is pulled out of nowhere. It is designed based on the road geometry, curves, sight distances, frontage, schools, shopping centres etc. It's not just a random number and while it's cool that Ben can go that fast, he should save it for roads where he won't exceed the speed limit.

The rules of the road apply to ALL vehicles... if you want to use the road, obey the rules.

**Getting of my soapbox now**

Wow, I had no idea the speed limits applied to bikes too. I guess I just never thought about it. I just assume cars will be going faster than the bikes. So funny!

Yeah I'm with you on the slow day. Even if bikes are supposed to obey the rules too I can bet there were probably cars going faster than that at some point during the day. Maybe the officer just thought it would be funny

That is crazy, and cool! But still Utah cops need to work on all the pedifiles and metlabs in that state!
