I need a new plan

If I ever found a genie in a bottle who gave me one wish, it would be that I could eat whatever I want but still be super model hot. Wouldn't that be perfect! To never feel like I'm depriving myself of the yummy thing in life and to have that muffin top gone. (basically to have my highschool self back)

Did I mention in my last post how unfair life is? I think I did, and at least most of my readers agree with me (thanks for backing a sister up!) that life just isn't fair. In fact, since I wrote that last post, my husband has lost even more weight while I've gained 4 pounds - 2 of which happened to be over night! How do I gain 2 pounds while I sleep? Am I sleepwalking to the kitchen or something?

Sheesh!

Needless to say, my current plan of trying to watch what I eat and to run when I have time isn't really working anymore. I need to "change things up" and do something drastically different. The problem is, I don't know what else to try. I need suggestions, ideas, etc. Please girls, tell me what works for you! How have you managed to keep the weight off? What are your little secrets? I may even be willing to try legal drugs at this point (although I have considered meth - have you seen how skinny those stung-out people are?)

I am in the process of doing one very drastic thing: I'm trying to kick the diet soda addiction. I'm a pretty serious addict, so the whole cold turkey thing wasn't an option. But I'm slowly reducing my intake. I only drank 1 today - I'm trying for nothing tomorrow. Wish me luck!

I seriously credit the weight I lost at the beginning of my workout/diet plan to cutting out carbonated drinks and caffeine. It was seriously slowing me down, too. Everyone is different though....it probably doesn't bother a lot of people. I had to do a drastic diet though.... I had/have so much to lose. I've lost 32 right now, as of today...and I don't cheat, and it sucks. I just have to get my metabolism back on track. My doctor told me it was pretty much 80 percent diet...and 20 percent exercise. I have found that to be true for me, at least. I had so many problems with my knee and I couldn't do ANYTHING for a while...and I was still losing lots of weight. I had friends who were still doing the bootcamp thing, after I had to stop...and they weren't losing any weight. They'd work their butts off for practically zero weight loss. It sucks. Jason started that P90X thing....and he's lost like 12 pounds in two weeks. He loves it...and it has really worked for him so far. I am NO expert on this stuff....'cause I'm just doing what works for ME. I have cut so many good things out of my diet....and I don't have too many cravings anymore, after the first few weeks. It sucks....but I was/am desperate. I had never been this fat before...unless I was pregnant. I don't know WHY guys seem to lose weight so much faster.... It pisses me off, too. :o) I'm going to try to start working out harder again in the next few weeks. I'm hoping it will kick my weight loss into gear again. I've been at a stand still for the last week or so. It's so depressing.... I agree with you about the genie. THAT would be a dream come true. :o)

Geeze I was just going to wish you luck on the diet soda thing but I feel pretty lame just saying that after Carrie here wrote a short novel. I hope I can still be your friend!

Good luck tomorrow BTW...!

For me, Body for Life worked. I didn't even follow it exactly and didn't do the exercise AT ALL because of a bad knee. The first time I tried the diet part just for a month and lost 15 lbs. Haven't been as successful since then but that's because I haven't kept myself to the program as strictly as I did before. I'm totally addicted to sweets, so it's a challenge, but at least that program has a free day where you can eat whatever you want. Problem is when every day becomes a free day. :) My SIL has done Atkins for over a year and started running. She's lost about 90 lbs. I think everyone's body is different and responds differently to things.

Good luck with dropping the soda! It's a great idea!! I hope it helps!

Everyone is different, but for me it's all about the diet. Working out helps me feel better and look more toned, but I've never been able to lose weight with just exercise, even doing a ton of it.

Right now I'm planning a major sugar detox. Halloween messed me up big time! We all have our struggles, for me it's wanting to eat sweets all the livelong day.

BTW, I totally agree about the genie!!!

I'm sorry! I know how you feel It took me about a year to loose 20 lbs, diet alone and then Andre looses 25 in a couple months. I have a soda problem, I can cut down pretty easily, but its hard for me to go off! I hope you find something that works for you. My RE said to get the South Beach Diet (I have PCOS) its supposed to be good. Good Luck!

BTW, if anyone can give me a good scientific explanation for why diet soda is bad for weight loss, I'll try it. But it's no calories, and caffeine suppresses appetite (Diet Coke is a staple food for anorexics!) So I'll keep drinking my Vanilla Coke Zero until I get some PROOF. :D

Dude, I'm totally with you on the meth thing. I've thought about it for years but I don't want to lose all my teeth or look 90 when I'm 31. So, so far I haven't gone that route.

I love Pilates. I started doing it a couple years ago, but haven't kept up with it mostly because I'm lazy and partly because of my foot.

My friend lost 20 lbs in two months just by hiring a personal trainer. You might try that route if you have money. Forces you to be accountable, plus gives you a variety of workouts specific for your body. She said in two months (three times/week with trainer, two without) she never did the same exact workout twice. you could ask for it for Christmas! :)

Good luck.

Hey Christie girl... I know you are searching for the perfect formula. Hopefully you can gather all the advice here! I remember one lady telling me that she kicked the cola habit by first drinking the equivilent in lemon water first, then having the cola...she would not allow herself one until she'd had the water first. It quenched her thirst.

Also, my tricks for losing weight and keeping it off is to eat most of my calories by 3 pm and just have a light dinner. I eat a lot too - about 2000 by 5 at least. But, I have a 3 mile walk everyday just to get to work. Also, run 25 miles a week. I still have any and everything - just portion-sized.

Hang in there girl. It sucks when our weight is the biggest thing on our mind. I'd rather think about more pleasant things! Hugs.

Hey,

You probably don't remember me (was Anna Flyr now Anna Memmott), but our families know each other pretty well. I am from the Fairfield ward in Ohio, and was briefly in a "band" with your brother, Matt. Anyway, I stumbled across your blog because I was in contact with Matt for a little while last year. He had a link to your blog on his myspace page. I just started reading your blog lately, and I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy reading it. (I hope you don't mind.) I have had so many of the same thoughts and frustrations you have had. Thanks so much for the "realness" of your entries. I just had a baby about 3 months ago, and I am also in a struggle to get the baby weight off. I really like to push myself in my runs. I do a lot of sprinting intervals up hill. Pushing kids in a double jogging stroller, up hill also works well (and it also tones the arms a bit). I don't know, the more I run, the better I want to eat in order to sustain the energy I need to keep up on the running. I also don't weigh myself very often, because it can be a real downer and can be discouraging. I like to just judge by how my clothes fit. I also have just posted a nikeplus running log on my blog. I figure I don't want to look lame for all those who read my blog. I just haven't gotten my sensor in the mail yet.

Anyway, sorry to post a "book". I obsess over my weight too.

Hey Christie will you send me your email address so I can invite you to my blog? I'm going private. Thanks.

PS - in your profile pic you look AWESOME! I don't think you need to worry about your weight.

Kashi Go Lean cereal with a cut-up banana for breakfast. Big spinach, arugula and tomato salad with light but not fat-free dressing. Small portion of normal dinner. Snack: soybeans, fruit, Kashi granola bars. Brush teeth after dinner so you're not tempted to snack late at night. Lots of water or decaf tea or coffee when tempted to snack. And certainly your exercise program is awe-inspiring! I always lose weight on this plan and I only do three days a week of 3 mile walk/runs. Once I hit my target, I can start adding in more treats without consequence.

i hate that there are some of us that have to constantly work at this crap. but just know that you are not alone.

that's why i have no problem trading 10 years of my life for the ideal weight. wouldn't it be nice?

I could have written this same post.

The weight battle is SO frustrating!

It feels that way at first but with the right recipes etc...you do not feel like you're missing out and the weight will fall off. (=

Weight Watchers really worked for me. Reducing my portion size and limiting my fat/calories was the key. I've kept it off by setting a goal weight. If I go over that, I diet again. As long as I'm under it, I allow myself some indulgences. Also, exercise no more than 4 days a week. I found when I was dieting AND exercising a ton that my body just shut down the wieght loss process out of self-preservation. So take it slow. Don't overdo it on the exercise. (That's also something they stressed on Biggest Loser the show. When people are exercising a lot, they need to compensate with increased caloric content, not decreased. And high protein. I don't know how much you're running, but could that be a factor?)
