The little ladybug

Brynlee loves ladybugs - really, she's obsessed. A few weeks ago, I bought her some crock-style mary jane shoes with ladybugs all over them. When I saw them at the store, I knew she had to have them. She loves those shoes, and calls them her "haileebugs".

So, I was excited on Saturday, when we were walking through a parking lot and spied a ladybug crawling on the curb. I told her to come over and look, and sure enough, she was fascinated by the tiny creature.

I put my hand down so that the ladybug could crawl on my fingers, and Bryn loved that even more. It excited her to see the bug crawling on mommy's hands.

"Me hold it," she asked, and held out her hand. I let the ladybug crawl onto the back of her hand, thinking she'd be in heaven.

Instead, she freaked out - simultaneously shaking and swatting at her hand while shrieking frantically. And that poor, poor ladybug. Once a beautiful little creature - it was reduced to a hollow shell and some yellow gunk that Bryn wiped on her jeans.

Later, Bryn recounted the story to Grandma:

I made her (the ladybug) sad. I made her cry. I made her die. (as she mimicked the slapping/shaking/shrieking routine)

That is so funny! Kids think they love something, but then realize... it's probably better off dead. That is a cute story, even if it did end in death. I loved her rendition to Grandma.

I love this story. Landon is obsessed with bugs, but he's also secretly afraid unless he can jump on them. We found a huge pile of ants bubbling up on Sunday. He stood there, squatting and yelling at them "BABIES!!! NOOOOO" and then he'd yell "DADDDD!" and then jump. It was pretty funny. He's pretty good at spotting bugs though. He doesn't fall for "there's a bug on the ceiling" in sacrament meeting anymore.

My kids are the same way.... They love lady bugs and potato bugs, too.....only if they ARE NOT on them or touching them. I was so disappointed when my kids FREAKED out the first time I put a potato bug in their hands. OH WELL. :o) BTW,and totally off the subject :o)....I finally got those YUMMY tortillas from Costco. Thank you for telling me about them. I love love love them!!

That was a great story. That's so cute how she loves lady bugs! Does she still love them? The other day we were going for a walk and both of my kids were in one of those big strollers you hook to a bike, but I was pushing them. A lady bug flew in to their seat. The kids fussed over it for a long time. My 5 yr. old kept saying, "It's a kid". I guess her preschool teacher (Stacie Dougher, remember her?) told them that yellow ones are babies, orange ones are kids, and red ones are adults. Is that true? I don't know.Interesting, thought.

Chaylyn loves ladybugs too! We have a stand of trees between our place and our neighbors. We must have a few nests of ladybugs, because there are literally hundreds and hundreds of them in a very small area.

Chay doesn't seem to be afraid of them though. She picks up sticks they are crawling on, and doesn't seem to mind when they touch her, though I haven't notice one fully crawl on her yet.

Too bad the ladybug met her demise. Cute rendition to Grandma though. :)

So sad and so funny at the same time! Does she still like ladybugs, or is she afraid of them now?
