Getting ready routine

As humans, we are creatures of habit.  If you really stop to think about it, how much do you deviate from your morning routine?  I know I do the same thing every single day after day after day.  I'd go crazy if something happened out of order.  And the less that I have to accomplish just serves to make things go more smoothly.

In a post yesterday, one of my fellow bloggers mentioned that she spends 45 minutes in the morning doing her hair, which probably isn't out of the ordinary.  I kept thinking about that all morning while I was getting ready today:  45 minutes!  There is no freakin' way I could do that.  I'm pretty sure most women spend significant time getting ready in the morning.  But not me - I just don't have the time/energy/patience and (quite frankly) I just don't care enough.  It isn't that I don't care about how I look, but I don't put a lot of thought and/or effort into getting ready in the morning.  If I have something special that I really want to look good for, I may put in some extra time, but typically I'm ready in 10-15 minutes.  Tops.  Granted I do shower at night (I have to since I don't even own a hair dryer), but I can get from bed to breakfast in 15 minutes.  Less if I go for the pony tail.  It usually takes me less time to get ready than it does my husband.

I've never been a "girly-girl".  I don't wear much make-up, and I've always had a pretty low-maintenance hairstyle.  Sometimes I think that I should spend a little more time, but then I realize that its just not me.  About 4 years ago, I got my hair cut into a short style that took lots of work.  I hated that, I couldn't wait until it grew out enough so that it didn't require me to actually fix it.

My typical morning routine is:

pee
wash face
apply moisturizer, eyeliner and mascara (and maybe a bit of powder if my skin looks uneven)
brush teeth
comb and straighten hair (or skip the straightener and go straight for the pony tail)
apply deodorant
put on clothes (which were typically laid out the night before)
Eat breakfast

I have to eat breakfast in the morning.  I wake up starving, and pretty much have to eat within the first 30 minutes of waking up, or there's trouble.  If I'm running late, and have to choose between make-up/hair and food, the food wins out every time.  I'd rather be ugly than starving.

So, what about you?  How much time do you spend getting ready in the morning?

Nice to know your routine :)

I spend about 15 minutes before the gym in the morning.
I get up at 5.
Pee.
Gym clothes on.
Brush teeth.
Go downstairs and get shoes on
Grab water and protein bar.
Leave.

Then after gym it is about another 40 minutes.
Shower.
lotion.
deo for my BO
mousse in hair.
clothes.
brush teeth again.
straighten hair
get dressed.

I rarely put makeup on. I am so with you on the non-girly girl thang :)

I guess my routine only varies depending on what "chores" I think I can probably get done that morning. I complain about Jeff thinking he can do a bunch of stuff in only a short amount of time, but that is totally me in the morning.

I usually:

Run downstairs and grab a sippy for Landon
Potty/Blow nose (allergies)
Shower
Brush Teeth

(then here it can be anything from start load of laundry, vacuum, dishes in washer, put clothes on Landon, while my hair airs out)

Lotion
Pants
Eyeliner
Blow Dry half way
Mascara
Blow dry rest of the way
Bra
Straighten hair or pull into pony and only straighten bangs
Agonize over a shirt that doesn't show my belly
Deodorant
Perfume
Carry shoes downstairs

To this point it is between 30-40 minutes. After that it is a guessing game to how long until I get out the door (Landon breakfast, still cleaning up junk, talking to Monica or Jeff etc).

I think Jeff takes longer in the shower than I do, but if I have to blow dry then I take longer total. I'm with you though on low-maintenance. Sometimes I wish I could be that girly-girl that looks so put together, but I just don't think it would be me. Sorry for long comment!!

I laughed out loud at the "I'd rather be ugly than starving" LOL!!

I feel like the weirdo here...because I love slow mornings. I get up early, make some coffee and sit and read/journal for my first 45 minutes. Then I start getting ready for work - with the same routines as everyone above (and I too shower at night/no hair dryer!)

Ruhiyyih - I'd love a leisurely morning if my schedule allowed, but unfortunately I have to be out the door by 6:30 am, or I'm late to work.

It's hard to say how long it takes me to get ready. I get my 4 kids ready at the same time and do things to get myself ready in between. So, I guess I really don't know.

Wait...you get ready in the morning?! I just shoot for a shower sometime during the day. My kids don't care if I smell. I am trying to get better at this. That is my goal for this summer.

I feel really good about myself on the days I am able to shower and wear make-up. Generally my goal is to find a clean shirt with no spit-up or poop on it. I feel like I haven't done my hair in months. I barely remember what a blowdryer does.

It usually takes me 1/2 hour-45 minutes to get ready. And that's if I don't wash my hair. My hair is so thick and wavy that I have to blow dry it in 4 or 5 sections and then straighten each one before I do the next section. It is maddening to do my hair and takes me about an hour just for that part. So I usually wear a shower cap and only wash it every 3rd day. The other days, I just have to curl the bottom part and run a straightener through the top if it's gotten weird when I slept. But back when my hair was long enough to put up, if I put it up, I could be ready in 1/2 hour. That's the shortest I can do it in.
