Every year I make New Years resolutions. Usually, they entail different things I want to accomplish: be a better wife and mother, a better housekeeper, a better person. But there is also always one common theme: weight loss. Every year I resolve to lose weight, which I always manage to do. Somehow though, I always end up gaining it back, to where I sometimes have more to lose than I did the year before.
This past year, I had actually done well with my weight loss. I was down a full size, and gave away most of my bigger sized clothes. Then I hurt my foot in August - it was the beginning of a downward spiral that led to a 15-ish pound weight gain (it may be more, but I've avoided the scale). I stopped exercising to let my foot heal, and I started following the "How to get fat in 3 delicious steps (HTGFI3DS)" meal plan. What is the HTGFI3DS you may ask? Well it really is simple:
How to get fat in 3 delicious steps meal plan:
1. Convince yourself that all food consumed from a child's plate has absolutely no calories. We all hate to waste uneaten food from a child's plate. With this meal plan its ok to devour anything your picky child leaves behind - because that food contains no calories. So eat up!
2. Indulge in as many Christmas goodies as your stomach will allow. We all know that Christmas comes only once a year. Why deprive yourself? Christmas goodies are delicious, and since you won't see them again for a year, it is important to eat enough to last you those long 11 months.
3. Chocolate is the best stress reliever. Let's face it - life can get hectic and stressful. What better way to make things seem ok than to sink your teeth into a nice piece of chocolate. Toblerone are the best! Best results if eaten early in the morning or right before bed.
By following this meal plan, your are guaranteed to pack on at least 10 pounds - maybe more. It worked for me! I'm a freakin' real-life testimonial.
I know I'm making light of it, but it really isn't funny. I'm feeling fat and disgusting to the point where I don't even want to go out and be social. Something has to be done. So, this year, I am making just one resolution: to lose the weight and keep it off.
Here's what I'm going to do:
Operation lose the fat and keep it off:
1. Join Tiburon's Biggest Loser Competition. Having to mail pictures of me in my underwear and tell her how much I actually weight keeps me honest. I know that I won't win, but I at least have to be accountable. Humiliation plus the added bonus of a cash prize is hopefully the motivation I need.
2. Find a race to train for. I do like running, but I run with a purpose (ie. further, faster, longer) when I have a reason. This summer, I plan to run the Wasatch Back Relay. In fact, I just turned my money in yesterday and I'm excited. Its a relay race from Logan to Park City - it spans 2 days, and each racer will have the chance to run 3 legs of the race. The course goes over mountain passes and through valleys. It should be so much fun. I'm also thinking that I'll put into the St George lottery again this year too, just because.
3. Revamp my diet. I have recently been diagnosed with some food allergies, and trying to figure out what to eat has been a challenge (I think I've used that as an excuse as well). I've actually been considering starting a second blog tracking my diet along with daily symptoms to track what I can eat. I do plan to completely eliminate sugars from my diet (detox starts Friday) and caffeine as well. Hopefully I can find something that I CAN eat :)....
4. If all else fails, I'm going to try public humiliation: posting my daily weight on my blog. If y'all know how fat I am, it will be serious motivation. But I don't know if I'm that desperate yet.
Wish me luck!

You don't need luck! I know you can do it. I have toyed with the WB race - but I think I am going to do a Tri instead. I know we both like having things to focus on.
So glad you are being a loser again too :)
Oh, HTGFI3DS, yes I am all to familiar with that diet plan! I too follow this plan with an added "the kids are in bed napping so celebrate with a bag of chips and your laptop" which, by the way, does wonders for your butt! You WILL be my inspiration!
I thought I was the one who invented the HTGFI3DS plan! :D
Those are great goals, you can do it!
Good luck being a loser! I'm thinking about joining you - what a great idea.
Christie...I just love you. You are so stinking funny. I love your daily humiliation idea... I've thought of that one before. My idea centered around posting a picture of myself in a swimsuit. YUCK. :o) I have to tell you....I made Cincinnati chili last night....5 way, I might add. :o) It was DELICIOUS. Brian brought me back some cans of Skyline chili from his last trip...but I actually made it homemade. Aren't you proud of me?? I would LOVE to get together sometime soon. We have stuff this weekend...but how about next weekend?? Maybe Saturday? Let me know! It'll be FUN. Thank you for what you wrote on my blog today. You're awesome and I'm so grateful we've become friends. Love you. :o)
If you're gonna have Cincinnati Chili, its gotta be 5-way :)
Good luck with that!!! I think I just gained all my fridgen weight back, and now I am going to have to join the loser team again.. Crap!!
I hear ya! Thank goodness I didn't part with my "large" jeans from last year when I gained weight because they are all I can now wear. Ugh.
That diet is exactly the reason I've gained 8 pounds in only a few weeks. UGH.
Wow, good LUCK to you! You have much more motivation than I do. I've just decided to accept my bulging belly as a 'battle wound' and be proud of it!
Good Luck! I wanted to do the Wasatch relay so desperately this year... but I'm not sure that it's a good thing to do considering I'll be 8 months by then. I know there are other years, but I wanted this to be it!! So do it & tell me all about it.. and perhaps you'll be up for it again in 2010!!
Ha ha! That is so funny. I especially love the eating food from your kid's plate. I thought I invented that one. Sometimes I don't even dish my own dinner up at all because I know I'll have more than enough from what my kids will waste.
Hey there! I feel your pain. I herniated a disc in August and have put on about 10 pounds since then. Bummer. I don't know if I will ever be able to run again, at least not like I used to. (though I was more of a leisure runner....not distance or competitive) Anyway....the only thing I wanted to say to you was that while you may love running....be sure that running that far and long and hard is really good for YOUR body with YOUR own personal conditions. I know you had the foot injury, but I think you have asthma if I am remembering correctly (or allergies?). Anyway...I'm not trying to tell you what to do...do what makes you happy, but I did learn last summer that my running alone was not enough to get me the body/health that I wanted. I started lifting with a trainer...not for bulk but for definition and I looked better than I ever had. It is not all about looks, but I was also stronger and leaner and could actually run farther. Here I had spent 10 years running and running and running b/c I loved it and there was a simpler way to lose the weight while enjoying my activity of choice. Just some food for though....since you won't be eating much for awhile! (ha..sarcasm. I'm right there with you going through junk food withdrawl this week. I walked 50 minutes and ran 10 on Monday, did 20 push-ups and was so sore yesterday and today that I could barely move. How sad is that? Injuries suck, but it could always be worse and I am determined to get my old body and health back too!) Good Luck!

This is a great post. I followed that diet plan all of December too :) I put on 5 lbs as soon as the marathon was over, too. Boo.
You go girl. You rock. Way to be a loser! :)
yep, I gained about 5 lbs from late November to the end of December following that plan. so I am with you on the weight loss program! p.s. I have learned the hard way never to give away your fat clothes. You THINK it will motivate you not to get fat again. But it won't. You'll just have a really sucky wardrobe when you do gain weight again.
I held on to baby weight after Landon for 3 years. Finally got down and got pregnant again. I actually got all of Chayces baby weight off within a few months and I cannot get over this darn hump.. It was what I weighed when I got pregnant with Landon, and still at this same weight.
I am so excited for BL6!!! and you have a great chance of winning! BTW- I can't work out because my lungs have been on fire for 3 weeks, so I have less of a chance than you...
