Don't get me wrong - I loved these books as a child and I love them still. But they're getting old. We need some fresh stories around our house. So please, what are your recommendaitons for a 4-ish girl who loves stories?

What are you reading?
I wish I could say this post is about adult books. I love reading, but I don't have time for it right now. My biggest issue is that once I start a good book, I cannot put it down until it is finished. Sometimes that means staying up until 3 am to finish. When sleeping in right now is 7 am, there is no way I could stay up that late. So, I'm stuck reading children's books to my girls - which they love. My kids would sit and read books with me forever if I'd let them. And while we have a fairly good selection, I'm getting sick of what we have. G's getting bigger too, and is liking the more grown-up books. So, I bought 2 of my childhood favs from ebay a few weeks ago. For the past few nights, we have read both of these books:

I'm kind of a nerd, but I totally love anything by Leo Lionni. They are classics but I had never heard of them until Dallin's book orders in preschool. I actually thought I finally had them all, but I just looked them up on Amazon and there are several more I need. Seriously, I don't get sick of reading them. We especially love Frederick, Alexander and the Wind Up Mouse, Swimmy, A Color of His Own, Fish is Fish... Okay, a lot of them. They are all really cute and I love the illustration.

Cloudy with a chance of meatballs. Let me think, I know we've got more...
Some of my favs are: If you give a mouse a cookie, Alexander and the terrible horrible no good very bad day.All the Olivia books, I am sure I could come up with more. I'll get back to ya.
2nd the Leo Leonni stories, Emily loves them, and I love the moral behind them.

I remember those books! I just started reading the secret again so that probably won't help.
my girls love a book called walking backwards upsidedown. Daisy memorized it and now she reads it to me.

I second "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs." One of my absolute favorites. Also, I love the "King Who Rained" books. "Come over to my House." "Harry The Dirty Dog" "The Happy Birthday Present" "Where the Sidewalk Ends" "Dean's Book of Nursery Rhymes" & "Dean's Book of Fairy Tales" (they have the most exquisite, enchanting illustrations for little girls. You may have to find them on ebay--I'm not sure if they're in print.) And if you can find a copy on ebay or something, "My Turn On Earth."
Okay so I'm not sure if your babies are too young for this stuff, but my seven year old loves:
Junie B. ALL. They are really funny and have pics on just about every other page. G is probably getting ready for this kind of book and they are entertaining, even to me.
Dr. Seuss. Mainly One Fish Two Fish and Green Eggs and Ham. I know they are old hat, but Ellie LOVEs them. and has since she was little. Landon is just getting into the fish since he's addicted to fish and surfing.
Falling for Rapunzel. I know there are more of this kind, I just can't remember them. It's just a funny take on the Rapunzel story. If your girls like princesses, they'll prob like this one.
Magical Ballet Slippers. This is one Ellie loved because it comes with a ballet slipper necklace. There are others by this guy (Nick Ellsworth) that have little necklaces too. It's not really a "classic" but ellie loves them
Magic Tree House. This one is just a little past the Junie B books, but they are pretty good. Ellie just go into them so maybe another year before your kids do. They are about a brother and sister that have a tree house that takes them to different places (like dinosaur times, knights, egypt with mummies, etc.)
Good luck. I'm stuck on board books with landon still and i think he's getting tired of them. Luckily he likes to hit things with bats, so we are okay for awhile.
Big fan of Miss Nelson too -- fun book! I love one called "Wet Pebbles Under Our Feet" and another called "The Hello Goodbye Window". They're both about heritage and family and we love them.
I am a huge fan of kids books. Kaitlyn and Ethan love to read books so we read a lot. I am also bad when it comes to putting my book down. My family calls it Mommy time cuz all I do is read and feed the kids, but only cuz I have too! So sad, but true!
